In this blog I’m going to communicate my own mindset etc. in order to acquire what you want and live happily every day.
Thus, it would be suitable for not only those who are curious about living or studying abroad, especially in Europe and Germany, but also for those who are regularly thinking about your life – for example, a mindset to live positively, how to live as happy as possible every day and others – it might be too much to call it “self-enlightenment“.
However, if you are interested in others’ opinions in this regard, you might find this blog quite informative.
Let’s take an example and go further in detail.
There is something that I noticed since when I started to live in Germany, and also when I started to work full time, and have been trying since some years and already became like a habit.
Which is, “others are like yourself in a mirror”. This phrase might still be not enough to fully understand. In other words, other’s attitude or facial expression tend to be just a reflection of yours.
This was by chance written in a book that I was reading. Let me cite and translate partially:
You treat others like you you were treated….
In Star Bucks the idea of “you treat others as you were treated” is considered as a premise. It’s interesting to see that companies are also appreciating this kind of idea. Let me write below about my experiences as well.
For example, Germany is a typical “Servicewürste: service desert”. In this regard it is opposite to Japan, which highly values service spirits and hospitality (Omotenashi).
A typical example where you can realize this in every day life, is the attitude of shop persons. How to say, they give me an impression that they have quite an honest attitude even when they are working. If the shop person was in a bad mood, she/he interacts with a customer unfriendly keeping that mood.
Well, this is relatively a negative example, but even if the shop person’s mood was not bad (not especially happy either, but even when she/he is in quite an average mood), she/he tends to work minimalistic, accomplishing only what is necessary. This is because the service spirits are basically not something that expected.
Not like Japanese shop persons at all – when you shop on a rainy day, they kindly put a plastic cover around the shopping bag. Also it’s quite common that after you finished shopping, they bring the shopping bag for you till the exit and see you off there.
(Of course in case of luxury shops in Germany, this kind of warm service would likely to exist but in this example I’m talking about average shops’ cases.)
Even if you are wondering something in the shop, it’s generally unlikely that the shop person voluntary approaches you and ask if he/she could help you.
At the cashier at in the supermarket also, when it is crowded with a long queue, customers would be annoyed as they want to finish shopping as soon as possible. Shop persons at the cashier would surely be annoyed too as they are extremely busy. In case of a Japanese shop person at the cashier, she/he would be only annoyed inside of their heart and still keep a smile on their face with a nice attitude.
In German case, a customer can clearly see that a shop person is also obviously annoyed.
In such a case there are some shop persons who only purely finish the cashier process without saying even “Hello”, “Thank you” or “Bye”.
Even though customers are waiting in a long queue, there are some shop persons who carelessly leave the cashier saying “it’s my turn to have a break”. Saying “my colleague is coming soon” or something. And it tends to take quite some minutes until the colleague really arrives at the cashier 🙂
